43 Squadron was formed in Stirling on 15 April 1916, as a unit of the Royal Flying Corps, moving to France in 1917 for the spring offensive. The squadron was disbanded and reformed many times over its history before finally being disbanded in July 2009. The squadron was mostly based at RAF Leuchars in Scotland.
